A Short History of Cremation

Cremation as an option to traditional ground burial has existed longer than written history. Honored in some traditions, and now accepted by nearly all cultures, is often embraced by those who desire the economic cost and the lack of impact on the enviornment. Cremation was preacticed in the earliest socities, and was frequently accompanied by elaborate ceremonies assciated with the American Indians and the Nordic cultures. Cremation roots were in European and Near East cultures as early as 3000 BC and was an elaborate part of Grecian and Roman Cultures. Sometime in the last centrry, scientific advances resulted in dependable methods for the cremation of a human body, and as early as 1873 cremation became accepted in the american and european cultures.
